About Timothy O'Brien

Aspiring physician-scientist and change-maker. I have a passion for caring for the most underserved populations, expanding access to scientific research, and incorporating psychiatric care into every aspect of medical practice.I'm a graduate epidemiology student at Regis College hopeful of becoming a compassionate physician bridging the gaps of care in our country and world. By combining my interests in providing quality care to marginalized populations and furthering biomedical and social research, I hope to inspire the next generation of leaders to make a difference in their communities. In undergrad, I studied neuroscience and biology, which provided me with an excellent background in the bio-psycho-social model of care. With over four years of providing inpatient psychiatric care as a Mental Health Specialist at McLean Hospital, I've learned the value of caring for the whole person without distinction - no matter what their background is.Most people wouldn't think being hospitalized in an ICU during their sophomore year of college and missing months of their lives was something positive. And, let's be honest, it wasn't. Through suffering from a case of life-threatening myocarditis and recurring chest pain since then, along with living with multiple other chronic conditions, I've had my fair share of healthcare providers and visits. However, overcoming all these challenges and more has given me a new understanding of medicine, and how to better live my life for others.Combining this with my experiences in neurobiology research relating to hypoxia-ischemia and Alzheimer's disease, and clinical research in adolescent mental health and addiction, I hope to advance knowledge on the factors that impact our health, and how to prevent poor health outcomes. Service is a core part of my identity, and being able to give back to my community is something I take great pride in. Through educational outreach and clinical service with communities often underserved in our New England healthcare system, I've utilized my knowledge and experiences to empower individuals to make the best healthcare decisions for themselves and their loved ones.Follow me along on my journey, and maybe we can learn from each other! I'd love to connect with you all!
