Major chapters cover chess magazines, chess columns in newspapers and periodicals, and books devoted to chess. A final chapter deals with the author's "take" on chess history and research with personal advice for writers. An extensive set of appendices summarise many of my findings in a convenient reference form for future writers on chess history and include an A-Z guide to chess columns.

Working From Home

I wrote monthly articles about the history of the World Chess Championships for the official website, worldchess.com owned by Agon. Also I contributed occasional topical articles to the same website. This came to an end when Agon scaled back their investment in the website and the site editor left.

I worked on the staff of The Sunday Press (Irish national newspaper) for these 16 years as a text and rewrite editor, also involved in page design and make-up. I also wrote for the paper on various topics, especially as its chief theatre review from the early 1980s until the newspaper closed in the summer of 1995.
