Profile bio

About Timothy Keal, Eit

To me, being an engineer is about more than just solving math problems, building things, and getting a paycheck. My mission in life is to create lasting solutions for problems that affect people, wildlife, and the beautifully complex ecosystems that make our planet habitable.I am a growing professional in the Civil & Environmental Engineering industry currently working for HDR Engineering as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT). Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and to develop several technical and professional skills, such as: hydraulic modeling, pump & pipe design, drafting, geomatics/mapping, field data collection/analysis, technical writing, project management, cost estimation, bid set preparation, client relations, and team collaboration.5 key traits:– I enjoy being challenged by new and increasingly difficult problems; the higher the bar gets raised, the better I perform– I work best in teams with diversity; great ideas are borne from differences in opinions and methodologies, and I love finding the glue that creates an efficient team dynamic– I thrive in settings that require meticulous attention to detail, and I never complete a task just for the sake of getting it done; I want to understand both the problem and the solution on a fundamental level– I am fueled by my passion for environmental conservation and the projects I find most interesting are those that benefit both people and wildlife, such as wetlands for wastewater treatment– My ultimate goal is to become an expert in wastewater treatment technologies that can be used to remediate polluted water bodies, remove recalcitrant chemicals, or improve the efficiency of existing treatment plantsMy work history has been diverse and rewarding, and I can honestly say that I cherish the experiences I had and the skills I learned in every job I’ve ever had, as each one has helped me become a better engineer. I believe that my time spent drilling investigation wells around contaminated sites motivates me to triple-check my work for accuracy; that my days in Public Works help me see things from the operator or maintenance workers’ perspective; and that all my work in the food industry was, unsarcastically, fantastic for character-building.Engineering Software:– Hydraulics (InfoWater Pro, WaterGEMS, InfoSWMM, HY-8, HEC-RAS)– Contaminant Fate/Transport (RT3D/MT3DMS)– Wastewater Treatment (BioWin)– Water Quality Studies (CE-QUAL-W2)– Drafting (AutoCAD Civil 3D)– Mapping (ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro)– Data Analysis (Visual Sample Plan, R, MATLAB, SPSS)

Listed skills include Leadership, Water Resource Management, R, Stormwater Management, and 38 others.
