This was the peak of Ronald Reagan's "Star Wars" development. My position required a secret clearance along with additional higher level atomic energy clearances. I worked with a retired Air Force Colonel with a PhD in Operations Research. It was fascinating work. I developed several computer simulation models of various ballistic missile defense systems. My greatest accomplishment during my short time in this industry was the introduction of direct mathematical solutions (I used the hypergeometric distribution to replace slower Monte Carlo computer simulations) to reduce computer usage costs. I published a paper on my work in this area. I left this position to go to business school at Vanderbilt University.
