When my cousins and I were young they built spaceships and cars out of Legos while I made marketplaces to “sell” them all the pieces that they needed. For some reason, managing a business always fascinated me, and it still does to this day.Nothing satisfies me more than figuring out a way to do something better. Whether it’s identifying a smaller package that we can ship one of our products in to save on freight, or automating a process that eats up a lot of man hours - knowing that I’ve left something working more efficiently than when I found it is one of my favorite feelings.I also think running a business or improving operations requires one to be data driven. For that reason, I’m a total nerd when it comes to data. If I’m not careful I can get lost in Excel spreadsheets, SQL queries, and Tableau dashboards for quite a while. But I wouldn’t have it any other way, because the more I leverage data, the better decisions I make.Finally, I make it a priority to learn continually and enjoy teaching people what I’ve learned. Sometimes that means showing the people I manage skills that will help them do their job more efficiently, and other times it’s something simple like teaching a friend how to play guitar. Regardless, I always make time to improve myself and share information with others.
