Tim McFarland has lead loan departments in three states, was CEO of a bank and was President of a group of five businesses owned by a wealthy entrepreneur. He helped found the Arkansas Venture Forum and Accelerate Arkansas, where he served as there chairman for the first five years of their operations. Accelerate Arkansas advocated for the importance of tech ventures, entrepreneurship and start-ups along with the knowledge economy overall. It collaborated with every state economic oriented agency and successfully ran a portfolio of bills. Tim spent time helping a private equity firm with both raising capital at the outset and finding investible deals. Tim loaned money and managed loan departments in high inflation times, growth periods and declines. Tim has lead organizations through the start, through growth periods and taking on turn-arounds.

Arkansas

Helped source super accredited investors in northwest Arkansas to secure the capital for this venture fund. Of the $25 million raised for this fund, approximately $7 million was secured via a strategic initiative that we put together and led in northwest Arkansas. After the capital was committed, we represented the fund seeking new investments in operating companies covering primarily Northwest Arkansas and related prospects.

Upon returning to Arkansas, it was evident that we lacked the important entrepreneurial environment of start-up ventures, technology companies and a vibrant knowledge-based economy. This component of our economy helps the whole economy evolve and be more competitive. We spearheaded the creation of Accelerate Arkansas to advocate for and develop programs to accelerate this part of our economy. 75% of the changes in a state's economy come from technology and knowledge-based ventures. We developed a strategic plan, led state legislative packages and engaged a wide range of old economy leaders, state agencies, entrepreneurs and venture capital investors so that we began to grow this portion of our economy. No other group or entity was advocating for this at this time. Initiatives help create 33% state investment tax crediits, 33% R & D tax credits, Innovate Arkansas, the Arkansas Risk Capital Matching Fund and the Arkansas Research Alliance. Many outstanding Arkansans came together to make these things happen over an 8 year period. A base was established and others came along and helped take it to all new levels. .

Worked for Successful Arizona Entrepreneur who founded Giant Industries, a NYSE company before being sold. Assisted the founder with management and leadership of his balance sheet and the holdings / businesses held outside of the publicly held company. These assets included five operating businesses and several real estate holdings.

Led this turnaround bank through an economic downturn that caused over one half of all Arizona banks to fail and almost every Savings and Loan to fail. Some of our greatest work was done during this era. Unfortunately, our primary shareholder had multiple investments and experienced financial stress and the work that this great team of bankers performed went almost unrecognized. Keith Maio, Sherry Slayton, Scott Morrison, Jeff Anthony, Brenda Armour and others did incredible work. The bank reversed negative attributes into positives. This group went on to be outstanding bankers and we remain grateful for the work they performed during this high stress and unique period.
