The life or life cycle support is one where many people and divisions are looking to you to give definitive and scientific answers. For production this is trying to optimize tolerances and measurement so that they can pass working products but prevent defective products from reaching the customer. This gets interesting of course as sudden changes in failure rate have multiple possible sources such as bad batch of components, change in testing machine parameter such as the grid voltage or temperature, and of course software bugs.For products in the field the questions are different but related. Finding out why failures come from the field is much more challenging as often i can not set up a complicated measurements and get definitive results. I must go at it like a investigator and start with what works and find out what isn't working any more and try to find evidence for what broke it. These cases can be very challenging but also quite interesting as you learn much from things as you see them in a semi working state.Working on development teams as our company develops new products challenge my German language comprehension and expression skills constantly. To understand what it takes to build a product and to take it from idea phase to fully tested and mass produced is an experience everyone should be part of in their life. The fact that i have to do it while trying to understand a dialect of German that is difficult makes it even more fulfilling when it is done. It is a challenging job and one that requires many many people offering support and assistance but in the end some difficult decisions must come from the Life Cycle support team and sometimes you are on your own to make them. The rest of the time you try to finish what you have started before the next problem shows up in the inbox or calls you up on the phone and needs you to help solve it.

I was responsible to support customers and installers in the field with both hardware and software problems related to all products Fronius sold in the US. I would also travel to different regions of the US on average once every 6 weeks to give a technical training to customers and installers about our products.

I was responsible for getting building permits and laying out the solar electric system for the installation teams. After the installation I would stand for a building and electrical inspection and complete the necessary paper work to get the customers their rebate money from the state and federal governments. I would also go to customer sites that were having trouble or questions and work with customer of supplier of the troubled equipment to get positive resolutions for our customer.
