I designed the curriculum for and taught senior math and physics at Nahnpei Memorial High School in rural Pohnpei. Other activities included coaching the debate team, mentoring the senior science fair project, and conducting a test-taking tips seminar for all senior students in preparation for their college entrance exam. Additionally, I advocated for school improvements within the community and with local regulatory agencies (e.g., Pohnpei Department of Education Rules and Standards Committee, Environmental Protection Agency). I communicated weekly with my field director and I wrote three program evaluations throughout my service. Lastly, earned certification from the Harvard Center for International Development in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

I completed ten weeks of training on teaching, culture, safety, and the local language before being sworn in as a volunteer. At my site in rural Malawi, I taught freshman and junior biology and math at Kalaka Community Day Secondary School. In addition to teaching, I established and operated the school library and I served as chairman for the school's Scheduling and Entertainment Committees and as 12th grade Master Teacher. Lastly, I wrote a grant and obtained funding for the construction of a new school library and staff office.

As a shift leader, I supervised a total of 10 employees and regularly evaluated their performance. I consistently met corporate sales and labor requirements, and I managed nightly sales and deposits which averaged about $1,000. I did my best to resolve customer complaints when they occurred.

Nashville, Tennessee

The primary function of this position was to perform tests on food and drink samples for presence of various pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms. I was also licensed by the State of Tennessee for drinking water analysis, and I routinely analyzed water samples for the cities of Brentwood, TN and Franklin, TN. I was responsible for inventory monitoring and equipment maintenance as well as helping maintain compliance with the Microbiological Quality Assurance Program.
