Title: The development of an in-vitro, left ventricle model and test system for heart blood flow studies using 3D ultrasound, laser PIV and MRI.Description: to develop an artificial left ventricle that mimics heart tissue yet is optically and acoustically transparent. This left ventricle is then pumped with blood mimicking fluid and simultaneously studied with ultrasound and laser PIV. This included the design of the fluid circuits, equipment and control system to pump the left ventricle to simulate cardiovascular pressures, flowrates and compliance. The entire system was designed to be operated within an MRI machine for further research possibilities. The development of this system contributed to the following publication:"High Frame Rate Ultrasound Particle Image Velocimetry for Estimating High Velocity Flow Patterns in the Left Ventricle"Publisher: IEEEDate: 22 December 2017
Wireline Field Engineer
After completing my B.Sc. I worked for Schlumberger as a wireline field engineer. This involved the logging of exploration oil and gas wells for clients such as BP, Shell, ENI and Tullow. The work was demanding, technical and performed in high-pressure situations. Being based in east Africa I learnt how to be resourceful and how to lead a team to safely deliver a 1st world quality product in very remote locations. My achievements included A-rated performance reviews for 2011 and I was awarded the “best junior field engineer” award in February 2011. I left Schlumberger because the work was procedure based, it lacked creative problem solving which was a core reason why I chose to be an engineer. My responsibilities included:-Management and overseeing of equipment repair, maintenance and calibrations.-Management of materials and supplies-Assistance with the mobilization, execution and demobilization of new remote projects and associated logistics in Tanzania and Kenya.-Manage the control of explosives and radio-active material and ensure adherence to compliance of all related standards.-Assist with the development of the Schlumberger WL base in Dar es Salaam.-Manage the logging crew, assist with crew training and career development-And assist with the training of junior engineers.
