What an intense time this last period of Pollenizer was, crossing over my time as a contractor at iFlix. Having been in-and-out of the Guild for ages, i finally took the plunge and joined the mothership, immediately diving into setting up Health-X, Energy-X with Horizon Power, Free Money with Pepper, 2-day workshops, running the famous Pollenizer accelerator program, working with dozens of founders and national brands. An incredible, deep learning experience. A place of high integrity, the firm ultimately decided it had not hit proof-of-scale, and so following its own tough-love advice (the thing it was famous for), we wrapped up. Am amazing time.

Director Of Product Innovation

North Sydney, New South Wales, Au

Led and delivered total overhaul of product vision and delivery strategy to meet strategic business imperatives – a $15m program of new product development work, 500,000 downloads for the relaunched Jump-in (later renamed 9Now) - a “TV Show Companion PLUS Catchup TV” app and platform, in the process transforming how Mi9 provides support for Channel Nine TV shows, and making the ninemsn network a more sticky destination across more platforms.

I also worked evangelising Quickflix technology and innovation - and led efforts to define and nurture a Quickflix culture of trust, respect and leadership.

Nov 2009 - Mar 2013

Managing Director

The Sugar Partnership

Worked with over 50 clients, both direct and partnering with digital, branding, media and marketing agencies, such as• The One Centre (Jun '06 - May '07) - led digital work for Audi, Amex, Diageo, Woolworths• Profero Sydney & Singapore (Jun '05 - May '06) - led mobile work for Apple, Nat Geo, Medtronic• Sugar Partnership (Feb '01 - May '05) - led digital for Merivale, NSW Govt, Customs House, NetforceKey achievements: the business was born in, and weathered the post dot-com crash shakeout. Our highly creative design + tech build team always delivered on-time and budget, pushing technology - especially Flash-based interactive and animated interfaces - to their limit in a pre-broadband world.

Jul 2001 - Jun 2007

Md Sydney, Hong Kong And Tokyo

New York, Us

My third dot-com era role, where I led AsiaPac sales, client engagement, design and technical execution teams across three core offices, building on the team's reputation as a powerhouse high-productivity player within the global Oven Digital family. We developed cutting-edge rich media experiences for the likes of Channel Seven, Hookt, Tiffany, One Cosmos, and many others, until the US parent's untimely dot-com collapse. Gained valuable experience working with company administrators through a deed-of-company arrangement windup.

Oct 1999 - Jun 2001

Vice President

Tokyo, Jp

My second dot-com era role, where I led the delivery of interactive web projects for the global marketing teams of Honda, Mazda, Nikon, Sony and Toyota, as well as the ARCUS Artist-in-Residence - IBARAKI project with Wacoal Spiral Aoyama Gallery. So much fun working out of their super-trendy Harajuku offices.

Jun 1998 - Oct 1999

Creative Applications Director

My first dot-com era role - a true garage startup experience - architecting and building web sites and applications for clients such as Art Gallery of NSW, Honda Australia, MCA Chicago, MCA San Diego, MCA Sydney, Southcorp Wines (Lindemans, Penfolds, Seppelts, Seaview, Wynns), Sun Microsystems, and Toyota Australia. The unique thing about Spike in 1996 was how they were born of a magazine design business, and unlike peers began their work with a creative visual concept, art direction and copywriting - sensitive to the leading digital media of the time, desktop websites. My job was to execute pixel-perfect versions of these concepts in code, and my job was to push the tools and technology of the day to nail a pixel-perfect creative execution of the vision, and not allow it to dilute the visual and experiential work of our creative team. Had a blast, and also a bona-fide dot-com burnout 😎

Apr 1996 - Jun 1997

Research And Development Associate

London, Gb

Under UK Ministry-of-Defence contract, I joined Imperial College's Hypersonics research team under Professor John Harvey, with the goal to apply contemporary software engineering methodologies - object orientation, abstraction, test-base development, visualisation - to develop a new system for the computational aerothermodynamics simulation of ultra-high altitude rarefied hypersonic flows. My work also explored parallelisation, the use of Voronoi diagrams to partition 2-D and 3-D spaces to support spatially smooth statistical convergence sought by the core Direct Simulation Monte-Carlo algorithm underpinning rarefied gas and plasma flow simulations, used where non-equilibrium conditions make traditional fluid dynamics methods - Euler and Navier Stokes' equations - break down.

Jan 1992 - Sep 1996

Bbc Science & Features Producer

Bbc

London, England, Gb

Wrote, presented and co-produced this BBC 2 Horizon Films' documentary "Cyberpunks and Technophobes", exploring why despite exciting technological imagery and scientific ideas in films and television programmes, UK teenagers were becoming technophobes, switching off from science and technology. Highlights: got to interview Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams, Red Dwarf star Craig Charles, and - most of all - work with an incredible BBC team (See on IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0139772).
