About Tim Pearce Bsc(Hons) Atp Fpc Mbcs Ceng Citp
As a chartered engineer I have directed and led both software and firmware groups for nearly 35 years - often, performing both roles at the same time, acting as their management, software/firmware architect and principal engineer. This hasmade me both flexible and a very fast learner and to be able to think fast on my feet. I've worked extensively, and in depth, with storage devices, server platforms and enclosures, storage appliances and protocols, infrastructure, as well as AI systems, models & technologies.I have excellent leadership, personnel management and organizational skills as well as outstanding technical skills. I am able to see both detailed and high-level views of a business and its processes and my drive and energy draws me to highpressured complex environments where I can use my significant problem-solving skills to the maximum.I am extremely hard working and dedicated. I approach matters enthusiastically and try and instill the same into my teams. My motivational skills are excellent as well as being a good strong leader capable of working to budget, function, timeand quality through logical pragmatic actions.I work well with customers and vendors – always receiving high praise from them – and like to lead from the front, solving problems that others cannot, and coordinating actions between internal and external resources. I also have a lot ofexperience working with C-Level and board level executives. The groups I run have been as large as about 30 people, (test, support, and development) working on many products spread across Asia, Eastern/Western Europe and the US. Storage Hardware Architect - Vsan Readylabs & Advanced Development, Office Of The Cto
- My role in VMware was to bring knowledge of storage hardware to a software centric vSAN team.- Required in depth understanding of the storage hardware and protocols as well as VMware software ESXi/vSAN___ Architecting how to marry new HW to VMware___ Leading change adoption___ Understanding roadmaps from partners such as AMD, Intel, Dell, HPE and VMware___ Defining NVMe and NVMe-OF support for vSAN and qualification of partners___ Working with OEMs to define use cases for HCI vs disaggregated systems in an SDS world___ Deep understanding of SES, IPMI, SAS, SCSI, NVMe, SATA and some PCIe___ Defining and owning the vSAN certification policies and keeping them updated___ Specifying certification suite changes___ Leading problem solving with vendor equipment – acting as highest problem escalation level for the worst and most complex problems across silos___ Working from the bit/byte level of specifications to high level planning and roadmap interlock- In this role I won a rare ‘Innovation Champion’ award.

2001-2002 Sw/Fw Architect/Lead Developer
I was involved in the design and debug of all of Xyratex’s JBOD and SBOD products requiring good Fibre channel analysis skills and detailed SCSI knowledge. Part of the role included fixing the previously ‘amateur’ processes in a fairly new group to make it more professional and quality oriented.
Protocol Analyzer Software Developer
This work required using Delphi and C++ to produce GUI interfaces to Xyratex protocol analyzer hardware for both iSCSI and primarily Fibre Channel. My role covered most of the protocol interpretation and data display in the small GUI team. During this time I developed good Fibre channel knowledge which I still use.
Software Developer (Contract)
This role involved porting a large OS/2 and Unix airline ticketing database system to run against a mixture of Unix and Windows NT. It was mainly C++ with SQL and required detailed development skills on all three platforms.
Lead Sw Developer (Contract)
This role had two parts. I spent the first year developing a database query user interface for OS/2 for IBM to become part of the standard DB/2 offering using C and SQL. This included writing a SQL parser and designing the GUI. I then moved to working with Xyratex on their Fibre Channel test adapter GUI acting as lead developer and designer in C and Delphi for Windows and OS/2. We produced Fibre Channel test suites plus a SCSI and Fibre channel compliance suite which I helped design and build.
Oo Research Developer (Contract)
This was a research project by a Dutch company for a Dutch bank into new object oriented ways of development primarily investigating completely uncoupled data, self defining message streams and self loading object user interfaces. It was fascinating and has paved the way for me to write better object oriented code ever since.
Software Developer/Expert Systems Developer
Working in a variety of languages (such as SQL, C, REXX, ESE, Smalltalk) and on both PCs and main frames we developed a number of expert systems for IBM and a number of other software suites for customers for tasks such as supermarket supply management, warehouse management, mainframe sales bid support, project risk analysis, project estimation and tracking and others. We were one of the first groups in IBM to adopt C++ and Smalltalk.
Software Engineer (Ndustrial Placement)
This was spent developing tests for operating system APIs and then moving onto operating system implementation for the GUI side of OS/2. Starting off writing internals for an operating system is a great career start and shapes your approach to many problems as the issues with this work are similar to firmware development.
