I work as part of the Capital Programme Support team. We are chiefly responsible for discharging the ESQCR programme of work. The remit of this programme is to ensure that Electricity Northwest's overhead line network is compliant with the ESQCR regulations that were introduced in 2002.As a data analyst I am responsible for preparing packs of work based on high voltage circuits or ONS grid squares. Data that is collected in the field is returned to our corporate database which we interrogate. The relevant data is extracted and turned into a format compatible with design software used by our design engineers.A lot of my time is spent working on ad hoc data analysis projects. I am given a requirement and tasked with working out how best to fulfil it in terms of what data we can retrieve from the database, how it can be broken down and analysed and how it will tell us what we want to know. I often have to write summary reports or give explanations of the data including what limitations the data may have.

Initially this involved working on the CIPFA wide project to introduce a single group-wide CRM system called Consensus. My chief responsibility in the CRM project was to plan and carry out system testing of the new e-commerce platform for event bookings as and when new code developments were deployed. This meant liaising with internal and external staff developing the platform and then rigorously testing different booking scenarios. I also had to regularly update guidance material and provide training to internal users of the software.While working in this role my duties evolved and developed, and latterly I was spending the majority of my time in the role of a Database Marketing Executive. This allowed me to develop a wide range of skills and use them in different ways.

In this role I quality assured the content of the CIPFAstats website. I was responsible for assisting the data analysts with uploading new publications and for minor page edits and fixes and other general updates and news stories.

As a data analyst I was responsible for a number of statistical surveys of several hundred local authorities across Britain. These surveys were managed from start to finish with the finished product being printed on paper and published online.
