I have always been an avid maker and technology enthusiast, having cofounded a state of the art manufacturing company in Ohio at a young age. My career in medical technology began at Columbia University, where I first marveled at the vast network of biochemical signals that regulate our bodies. I was concurrently working in New York City hospitals and was astonished at the realization that, even today, nearly all of these signals cannot be observed or monitored in real-time.These experiences led to a deep interest in developing biosensors to provide insight into today’s diseases by more directly monitoring these signals. Today, I am the founder and CEO of AptaScan, a Silicon Valley startup creating a novel biosensor for real-time, continuous monitoring applications. Our sensor will first be applied to detecting imminent cytokine storms, which are acute and deadly complications triggered by many diseases including sepsis, influenza and Ebola.
