Chairperson Of Labour Affairs Committee
CurrentThe position of Chairperson of the ICS Labour Affairs Committee encompasses the very important role of spokesperson for the Shipowners' Group at the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The maritime sector is by far the most active sector in the ILO, with regular meetings of the Special Tripartite Committee of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC), the Joint Maritime Commission (to update the ILO Recommended Minimum Basic Wage for an Able Seafarer) and the Joint ILO/IMO Tripartite Working Group on Seafarers' Issues and the Human Element. Fulfilling the role requires a firm grasp of detail, the ability to think quickly and speak articulately and the stamina to represent the sector over long negotiations. A further requirement is the ability to maintain good relationships with all participants and to promote effective solutions that provide benefites to all sides.
