A voluntary community group working to improve the Westbrook and Stonebridge Pond for local people and wildlife. Our aims are:To conserve and enhance the local environment in the area around the Westbrook Stream and the public areas around Stonebridge Pond, Faversham, Kent, for the benefit of people, flora and fauna.To encourage the goodwill, education and involvement of the wider community.To foster community spirit and encourage civic pride and wider social benefits.The Westbrook is a globally rare chalk stream, designated as Priority Habitat – a range of semi-natural habitat types that have been identified as being the most threatened and requiring conservation action.As well as being an important for ecology the Westbrook and Stonebridge Pond has a fascinating history as it was fundamental to local gunpowder manufacture and, later, watercress growing. Faversham was the centre of the nation’s explosives industry for 400 years and Chart Mills, along the stream, very probably supplied gunpowder for the Battles of Trafalgar and Waterloo.The Westbrook and Stonebridge Pond are these days designated local green spaces in Faversham. Westbrook Walk is an important green route through west Faversham and Stonebridge Pond is a local beauty spot where families have fed the ducks and waterfowl for generations.

It was at the Bartlett that I came to realise that bringing the worlds of creative practice and scientific research together is not only right and proper but necessary if we are to avoid the failures of design - the housing estates and new towns of recent decades - that have blighted the professions of architecture and planning.As visiting professor I am working to increase the interactions between professional practice and academia.

The London Promenade project is a proposal to create a new extension to the existing promenade at the South Bank Centre, eastwards from Gabriel’s Wharf, along the south bank of the River Thames, via Bankside, Borough Market, and the Pool of London to connect with the existing jetty at Butler's Wharf.Significantly enlarged, incorporating jetties and piers, over the water and under bridges, the London Promenade would benefit the capital as a whole by creating a new, accessible, major waterfront park for the 21st century.The London Promenade would refocus attention on the River Thames at the heart of London and revitalise the river; define the South Bank as the new cultural quarter for London and provide a spectacular and safe venue for large celebrations. Of utmost importance would be its reinforcement of London’s image and identity, the perception in which it is held in the eyes of the world.

Morrison Brink Stonor is a design-led multidisciplinary practice with offices in London, Kent and Paris. Founded in 1996 by Robert Morrison, Barbara Brink and Tim Stonor, the practice has grown steadily since its inception thanks to an ongoing commitment to the production of innovative, practical and personalized solutions to every design challenge. The work of the practice covers an unusually wide range of projects, from minor alterations and extensions to existing buildings, to major new build and refurbishment projects using the latest developments in materials and construction techniques. We have also been involved in works to a number of listed buildings. The practice has won several prizes and has exhibited its work at the RIBA and the Architecture Foundation.
