Software Test Engineer, Business Analyst
I started at Dell as a Test Technician on the Build To Order (BTO) software team, which is responsible for the installation of software on computer systems in the factories, and moved steadily up the ranks through: * Optiplex Factory Install Validation (Software Test) Lead Technician* Optiplex FIV Engineer (testing the software deployed on computers in production as well as the software environment and Python scripts used to install them)* Test Engineering Lead for the 32-bit Manufacturing Software Download Migration effort (a massive project that converted Dell's 16-bit software installation environment to a 32-bit environment running on Linux and WinPE)* general BTO Software Solutions Engineer, and finally * BTO Logistics Lead (essentially a Business Analyst, gathering requirements, assisting with design, validating, and implementing network, storage, and applications resources in support of development, test, and deployment of software images). In my time at Dell I performed some light software development and heavy software testing in a Windows environment, performed Project Management functions, and at one time or another at least a small piece of every role associated with software and product development and operations. I worked closely with partners in Global Operations, IT, Product Group, System Test, Ops Cell, Manufacturing, ODMs, and software vendors, and took advantage of that exposure to learn all I could about hardware, software, and manufacturing.Selected accomplishment:First to recognize the magnitude of an impending catastrophic capacity shortfall in the worldwide content server infrastructure.
