I consult groups on their information technology, analytics and reporting needs in the move to value-based care, using a deep knowledge of data including insurance claims, EMR and hospital ADT, a broad understanding of the data warehousing needed to overlay these disparate data sources, and superior understanding of using analytic reporting to support value-based care. With training and experience in using process change to achieve superior results, I have a proven history of integrating IT to drive positive changes.

CHESS is a management services organization dedicated to care transformation, value-based contracting, population health analytics, continuous improvement and patient engagement. At CHESS, I created the IT strategy and designed and implemented an architecture for a scalable data warehouse and the analytics to support care transformation. We overlaid payer claims and EHR data to understand total cost of care and quality metrics, and made this information available through a secure and scalable business intelligence platform.

I started the Information Services department with just two other employees and a billing system and built it into a department with 50 staff, a robust network infrastructure, and a rich and diverse group of supported software systems, with a user base that has grown from 400 to 1800+ users.In 2005 we implemented the Allscripts Touchworks EMR, and in 2010 we became a National Showcase Site for Allscripts.I supported Cornerstone’s success by creating workflow tools and information systems overlaying both claims and clinical data. During my tenure, Cornerstone changed from physician-centered to patient-centered, emphasizing team-based approaches and using analytics-driven workflow systems to empower encounter specialists, nurse navigators, a call center, case managers, and other providers such as pharmacists, behavioral practitioners, dieticians, and social workers. These empowering, integrated systems helped Cornerstone’s patient satisfaction percentages climb from the mid-70s (average nationally) to above 90%, and earned us a Press Ganey Award.These principles drove the success of Cornerstone’s health care IT infrastructure:1) Avoid business disruptions by creating robust and redundant systems coupled with high levels of customer service to address issues quickly and efficiently2) Create a responsive, consistent user experience by overcoming bandwidth and platform challenges3) Adapt to growth and technological change quickly through flexibility and service4) Maintain security, integrity and recoverability 5) Hire quality people and give them the tools they need to do their jobs

I started Cornerstone Health Care's IT department. Previously IT had been outsourced to the local hospital and the company was unable to get good information from its medical billing system. Cornerstone had a very poor network environment, no internet and no email system. I created a consistent and reliable network environment and pulled management data from a proprietary database system into relational databases for reporting. I added internet connectivity and email. These changes started a long growth cycle for the company. We used billing system information to improve insurance contracts, reduce days in AR, create efficiencies, and manage financial performance.

I oversaw 14 programmers doing computer support for Phase 3 clinical trials, assisted with departmental administration and acted as second in command. We worked in database software systems such as INGRES, SQL-Server and Foxpro to create data input screens that maximized data integrity. Then we used SAS to further clean, verify and prepare the data for biostatistical analysis.

I managed the Research Computing section of the Public Health Sciences department during an interim between directors. Our programs and technicians serving 20 biostatisticians and 10 epidemiologists within the department.

I wrote programs to capture clinical trial data, analyzed data for integrity, and prepared data for statistical analysis.

I worked for the State in a Federal program aimed at increasing minority enrollment in post-secondary education programs. During this time I took computer science classes in preparation for applying to Masters Degree programs.
