Passionate about engaging students on all levels, enhancing their social experiences by encouraging group lessons and learning. Talented in using different teaching methods to reach out to students, including physical demonstrations, drawn illustrations and visual presentations.Work closely with the head of the department in sequencing the curriculum and creating the curriculum micro maps aiming for pupils to attain proficiency. I assist in book scrutiny to ensure pupils written work is of a high quality. I also support the department in creating assessments to focus uses on the component knowledge that pupils have learned to analyse and respond to gaps in learning. As a Form tutor, I take an interest in the pastoral care of each pupil in the Tutor group and ensure their journey in school as happy and successful as possible. I also support and encourage each pupil’s learning and actively promote the ethos and expectation of the school.I am a member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics and I read the works of leading mathematic educators, such as Mike Ollerton, Doug French and John Mason. I try to get inspiration to teach imaginatively, rather than solely relying on textbooks. I strongly agree with John Mason’s statement that, “to learn mathematics you must do mathematics.” In my classroom, I try to create academic tension in order to provoke and promote mathematical thinking. By discussing ideas and different strategies, pupils can become mathematicians, able to solve problems and develop logical thinking. Having recently read the Ofsted report “Mathematics: Understanding the Score,” I agree with their findings that teachers need to shift towards a focus on pupils’ mathematical understanding.Having spent ten years in the hospitality industry enabled me to be flexible to respond to changing priorities, to work under pressure and maintain a resilient professional attitude at all times. I believe the experience I gained has helped me develop a number of transferable skills that will help me in my development as a teacher. I couple these with a genuine enthusiasm for a career in teaching and a determination to make each lesson engaging, challenging and effective for every student in the room. I believe I fulfil the personal specifications for the post and will be able to offer the school enthusiasm, dedication, imaginative teaching methods and the ability to learn from and work well with colleagues and pupils.
