As Projects Manager it was my responsibility to develop a professional project management standard within the company. To this end I designed and implemented an MS Access based resource management system that provided an accurate input to the monthly billing run, a resource management tracking system for projects and essential management information on a corporate level.

I was responsible for the project to migrate all Reuter's Historical Information Services to HPSN (High Performance Shared Network) including over 500 individual interfaces, host interfaces and 12 public data network gateways at 45 distribution centres worldwide. I coordinated the ordering, delivery and installation of network equipment required by the 45 data centres and managed the cut over phase of the migration to the new network.

I was involved in the implementation of Reuter's HPSN (High Performance Shared Network) in Europe including site preparation, installation, training and product administration issues.

Having been a Reuternet communications engineer for 1 year I was promoted to the position of Reuternet Operations Manager. As manager I was responsible for the day to day operation, network planning, field service and installation activities of Reuternet in Europe and the UK. I had 10 staff in London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. I was responsible for the successful integration of UK based Reuternet staff and operations into the central Reuter's operations group after which I joined the RCE Network Planning Department.

I reported directly to the UCD Computer Centre Operations Manager. We ran 3 shifts covering service from 8am to 8pm in the data centre operations room and outlying computer rooms through the campus.The computer room housed 5 mainframe computers, peripherals and data communications equipment. My responsibilities included being second in command for the technical operation of the data centre plus operations staff management.
