  • Do Something Australia
    Co-Founder, Managing Director, Then Chair
Do Something Australia 2008 - Present
Do Something was co-founded by Jon Dee, Tina Jackson and Pat Cash in 2008 to create and promote positive environmental and social change. Rather than talk about problems, we seek to ‘do something’ by building alliances between businesses, government and the community. Some of Do Something’s key campaigns in earlier years include ‘FoodWise’ aimed at reducing the 3 million tonnes of food Australians throw away each year, ‘Ban the Bag’ to lobby for a national ban of non biodegradable plastic check-out bags, ‘Save Paper’ to reduce printing and writing paper usage, ‘Energy Cut’ to encourage households and businesses to reduce fuel and energy usage and ‘Go Tap’ to reduce bottled water usage and revive public drinking fountains. We helped Bundanoon become the first town to ban bottled water, generating massive international media coverage for this groundbreaking initiative. Other organizations have now picked up Do Something's pioneering campaigns and progress continues. In recent years the organization has refocused, making Do Something Near You its flagship program with the aim to make it easier for Australians to get involved in community volunteering and charity events. Do Something Foundation is the Australia Coordinator of RE100.

  • Nuclear Futures: Exposing The Legacy Of The Atomic Age Through Creative Arts
    Program Development
Nuclear Futures: Exposing The Legacy Of The Atomic Age Through Creative Arts Jan 2014 - Dec 2016
The story of nuclear survivor communities and the legacy of the nuclear age, while confronting, is such an important one, especially as many young people know little of this shocking episode in Australia’s history. Through art, the project's goal was not only to support these communities, but also to take their messages of peace and hope to a broader audience.A three year arts and cultural program funded by the Australia Council for the Arts, Nuclear Futures was an international collaboration of artists working with atomic survivor communities to bear witness to the legacies of the atomic age through creative arts. The project created new partnerships with arts organisations and educational and cultural institutions, research facilities, campaign groups and atomic survivor and nuclear veterans communities in Australia, Britain, Japan, Marshall Islands, Kazakhstan and India.Communities and artists used theatre, film, paintings and sculpture, photography, digital arts and other art forms to make creative works reflecting both the horror of living with nuclear radiation, and the resilience of communities as they face a future irreversibly colonised by nuclear radiation.See nuclearfutures.org
