I am a life-long learner and a self-starter. As a Computer Science major initially in college, I loved everything about logic and programming. Starting a family drove my decision to become a high school teacher. For the past 20 years or so, I have taught every math class available, mostly upper level, along with robotics and computer science. I have taught myself AP Statistics, Excel, Visual Basic, Java, C++, Javascript, Python, LabVIEW, and RobotC, to be able to teach the students, and for my own enjoyment. I have been using Python consistently for several years. In that time, I developed and taught the robotics course, and was lead mentor of FIRST FRC Robotics Team 3492 for 13 years. (See firstinspires.org for more information on FIRST.) I was the lead systems operator at my high school and was Math Department Chair for several years. I have worn multiple "hats" at the same time, while teaching sometimes 6 different subjects in a year, all while taking multiple master's classes in the evenings and running a successful extracurricular robotics team with 30 high school students. I am comfortable working under pressure and juggling many responsibilities at once. In graduate courses I further developed my Python skills, used R for many statistical applications, and learned SQL and NoSQL. I love everything about programming, mathematics, data and statistics, spreadsheets, and the list goes on. I desire to work with those things every day in my new career. If I need to learn something new or improve my skills for a job, I will be eager to do so. Looking through all the job listings' skills required, I have an ample amount of experience with most of them and look forward to the chance to get to focus on a few, since there are so many associated with the broad field of data science. I have enjoyed my teaching job and have wonderful memories, but I am eager to get back to my "first love" of all things programming. I look forward to the opportunity to use my knowledge and skills in a data science career going forward.
