I am the Founder and CEO of the Tourism Space, a leading consultancy and education provider partnering with the public sector to enable sustainable, regenerative and collaborative approaches to tourism. We work alongside government departments, public sector agencies, not-for-profit organisations, destination stewards, and EU projects to drive meaningful change. Working on the practice of sustainable and regenerative tourism since 2009, my contributions have been recognised nationally and internationally through multiple awards, including the All-Ireland Business Foundation's Tourism Businessperson of the Year award. I serve as Sustainability Advisor for World Travel Market in London, on the Sustainability Committee of the Irish Association of Visitor Experiences and Attractions (AVEA) and as a Member of the Advisory Board of Atlantic Technological University (ATU). Strategic Facilitator And Event McIndependent Professional Dec 2016 - PresentI work with groups to enable faster, more effective discussion, action-planning and decision-making. I use a proven process that saves time and allows group members to have the conversations that matter in a constructive, respectful and progressive way. To date, I have worked with groups in the tourism, hospitality, heritage, community development, urban development, archaeological, business and enterprise development sectors. Groups range from local community and business networks to Steering Groups and Boards of Directors of state agencies.I have facilitated extensively online and have honed the process to work equally well online and in person - saving a lot of travel and time for participants!I apply the same facilitation skills to hosting events and am an effective and engaging MC whether online, on pre-recorded video and in person. This is highly enjoyable work for me and I'm told that comes across in how I am present with the room or in the zoom! I am great at managing the time and as yet, have managed not to run over time on any event I've hosted (well, maybe a minute or two...but that's it!). I prepare extensively in advance, researching the topic, speakers and other content, resulting in a friendly, confident and professional style and an enjoyable event for all participants. Sustainable Tourism Facilitator & Steering Group Member, Burren & Cliffs Of Moher Unesco GeoparkClare County Council 2012 - 2017Ennis, County Clare, IeThis was a European Demonstration Programme that researched, tested and evaluated approaches to sustainable destination development in the Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark. The Steering Group comprised representatives of all private and public stakeholder groups in the destination. Within this, I was responsible for the engagement of tourism enterprises. I pioneered the innovative Geopark Code of Practice for Sustainable Tourism which continues to be adopted by all members of the Burren Ecotourism Network today. The Code was praised for making sustainable tourism understandable and actionable by a large number of diverse enterprises. The Geopark LIFE Tourism for Conservation Programme was awarded the National Geographic World Legacy Award for Destination Management in 2016. -
Sustainable Tourism & Food Tourism FacilitatorBurren Ecotourism Network Jul 2011 - Dec 2016Ennistimon, County Clare, IeMy life in tourism started with the 'animation' of the Burren Ecotourism Network in 2011, then a fledgling group. Through various contracts, I consistently supported this group over an 8 year period.I partnered with the members to test and implement various measures and models for collaboration. I led and co-ordinated the development of the Burren Food Trail between 2013 and 2015. The Burren Food Trail connects food-based enterprises across the Burren and has successfully created a truly compelling visitor proposition and a key point of differentiation for the destination, winning the title of European Destination of Excellence for Tourism & Local Gastronomy in 2015. Under my stewardship, The Burren Food Trail also won the title of Ireland’s Foodie Destination 2015. -
