Started in the district 23 years ago as an Intervention Specialist working with elementary-aged children to work through peer to peer issues through conflict resolution models. The concept I brainstormed was called the, "Talk It Out" table, where all parties were on equal footing, in a safe place, and a sand timer was utilized to give fair and equal time to each participant to air their thoughts and feelings. In the end, a personal contract was drawn up which is a collaborative effort and signed by everyone at the table. Sadly, all Intervention Specialist positions were eliminated due to on-going budget cuts about 10 years ago. Still employed with the schools I transitioned on as a Special Education Para-Educator, where my Early Childhood/Children's and Families degree came into use, very nicely. I worked as a liaison with families, social workers, resource teachers, principals and general education teachers, along with ensuring each student's IEP was being followed, which I found to be extremely rewarding.
