As Head of Legal for UK & Ireland, I undertake and oversee the delivery of legal services to Schneider Electric within my region.

TSV Legal Services is a consultancy offering specialist legal support and advice to the construction industry.

Built Offsite Limited is a market leading offsite construction company focussing on work in the education and healthcare sectors. I was appointed to a new role as Head of Legal Services and was responsible for setting up and running the legal services function within the business. This included the following key tasks:• Implementing new procedures and processes in order to ensure compliance with legal requirements and to safeguard the company against legal action, for example with regard to document storage, legal sign off of contracts and contract negotiations • Drafting precedents and policies for the company• Providing training to the directors and employees on a wide range of issues including directors roles and responsibilities, contracts, employment issues• Embedding the legal function into the business to ensure that legal requirements and good practice became an integral part of the company’s delivery• Dealing with and resolving legal claims and conflicts and negotiating settlement agreements where appropriate.• Instructing and managing external legal resources, consultants and experts as appropriate.I was a member of the Operations Team, sitting at the highest level within the Company and integral to the development and delivery of strategy across the business. I reported directly the Managing Director and worked closely with both the Managing Director and Chairman. I regularly reported to the Board and have experience of dealing extensively at Board level.Shortly after joining the Company I was asked to also take over the HR and Company Secretarial functions of the Company and its associated group companies.

During my time at National Grid I was solely responsible for all non-contentious construction work within National Grid and was involved with a number of construction litigation matters. I worked closely with my procurement and property colleagues on a range of matters as varied as drafting and advising on multi-million and billion pound infrastructure contracts and property refurbishment contracts as well as dealing with high-value disputes, and legislative compensation claims and other matters, such as nuisance claims.I was involved in developing strategy within the business and liaising with various parts of the business to balance legal and commercial requirements, working with them to develop efficient and pragmatic solutions. I was also been involved in organising and providing training for both the legal team and the wider National Grid business.

During my years with Hammonds I undertook a wide variety of both contentious and non-contentious work. Contentious work has included multi-million pound High Court actions relating to defects, construction of documents and breach of contract claims and I have experience of arbitration, adjudication and mediation.In respect of non-contentious work, I have carried out a wide range of work, including drafting full suites of construction contracts, including building contracts, appointments and warranties, for a wide range of high value development projects. I have experience of drafting bespoke contracts as well as Schedules of Amendments to a wide range of standard form contracts.I also worked closely with the commercial property and development sector where I have considerable experience of handling all construction and quasi-construction issues in relation to commercial, retail and mixed use developments. I have also acted in relation to a number of property sale and purchase agreements, carrying out due diligence work in relation to any constructions issues and negotiating relevant parts of the Sale and Purchase Agreement, and provided innovative solutions to complex issues arising out of the construction of the property in question, including drafting bespoke warranties and other collateral agreements.

I was seconded to work with Tube Lines, one of the London Underground infrastructure companies in London for 10 months. Whilst on secondment I fulfilled a general legal role advising on a wide range of legal matters, from, amongst others, construction and procurement, to regulatory and employment issues.
