Participated in the student immersion program hosted by the Small Animal Medicine Special Interest Group (SAMS) at The University of Queensland has enriched my understanding of veterinary medicine. Throughout this program, I actively contributed to the University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, collaborating closely with clinicians and 5th-year students in a dynamic learning environment.Responsibilities include:- Hands-on interactions with companion animals and some exotic species: manual handling and restraint.- Physical examination of animals, employing various diagnostic techniques such as temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPRs) assessments, as well as digital pulse palpations.- Preparation of treatments, gaining insight into the meticulous planning and execution required for administering medications and therapeutic interventions.- Intensive care, patient monitoring, learning to assess and respond to critical situations promptly.

In response to the pivotal progress in vaccination and the commendable efforts being made, I eagerly took on the role of Vaccination Administration Staff in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. This multifaceted position required a combination of reception duties and direct involvement in the vaccination process. The scope of my responsibilities extended beyond mere administrative tasks, encompassing collaboration with clinicians and fellow staff members.As a staff member, I recognized the profound impact that each vaccination had on public health. Beyond the immediate duties, I actively engaged with the community, promoting the significance of vaccination as a collective effort in safeguarding the well-being of society.Responsibilities include:- Assisting elderly individuals throughout the vaccination procedure: Providing empathetic support, addressing any concerns they might have had, ensuring the vaccination process was as smooth and comfortable as possible for them.- Tracking and updating patient records, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.- Client education: imparting information about the specific vaccine being administered, emphasizing its importance, and addressing any potential side effects.

Shadowing the head veterinarian, I actively observed and assisted in a multitude of procedures conducted within the practice, with a particular emphasis on general practice and compassionate care for companion animals.Responsibilities include:- Conduct distance examinations and recognizing behavioral cues in dogs and cats- Manual restraint techniques for medical and husbandry procedures, including one-arm holds for cats and two-person lifts for larger dogs- Administrative tasks and clinical treatments- Tracking and updating medical records, involving recording patient histories and establishing new records- Obtaining signalments from new clients and maintaining detailed patient information- Involvement in client interactions, including handling phone calls and providing client education- Offering crucial guidance, especially to new clients or those caring for a new puppy or kitten at home.
