With 33 years experience in design and advertising, I believe I have a wealth of experience and expertise in the creative world. Starting out as a Junior designer for Lawrence Flack in 1991 (now the Hardy Boys) and working in many of Durban’s ad agencies, including Saatchi & Saatchi (Jenesis), Roots and Gibbs & Dold where I was an art director. After becoming a mother and needing a job with easier hours I got a job in a corporate company in 2005 - NWJ Jewellery, in their Marketing Department as their senior designer, working at times alongside the creative agency Modern Museum and the digital agency Firstview. To date I design the print and digital ad campaigns for NWJ, manage the online creative side of the website, create and send emailers and create all social advertising. I was also instrumental in the rebranding of NWJ and involved in the new store layouts and the visual merchandising. While at NWJ I also worked with our sister company Arthur Kaplan, helping with their creative work and assisting on photoshoots. I enjoy working on photoshoots for our major campaigns and am happy to style and direct on product or model shoots. The most recent shoots being with photographer Roger Jardine. For the NWJ website & social posts I do the in-house photography, organise the retouching and post the images online, design social posts and use them for emailers.Part of my work in the Marketing department also included working with other retail companies including Edgars, Game, Makro, Netgifts, Takealot and RCS credit and doing the advertising and some digital work with them. I also helped with display layouts and some visual merchandising. As part of my freelance career I also designed many books, including the following:National Parks and Wildlife Management, Rhodesia and Zimbabwe - Michael BromwichSpecial Air Service - J PittawaySelous Scouts - J PittawayKoevoet - J PittawaySpecial Forces - J PittawayIn addition to my professional journey, I’ve delved into various freelance creative pursuits outside the conventional workspace. From 2012 to 2016, I engaged in freelance work for Benchmark Sport, contributing my design expertise to shape the visual identity of the South African Sports Industry awards. This involved curating all print media for their annual summit, adding my creative touch to each edition.Beyond the professional realm, my creative spirit thrives independently. I am the proud founder of YeBO, supporting local Zulu beaders and basket makers. My instagram handle is @shop.yebo. where I sell baskets with bespoke beading and design.
