Deputy Sheriff
CurrentAs a Deputy I serve the people of Weld County to provide effective public safety services with honor and integrity. As a part of my service I have invested myself into a number of areas of interest. CIT, Crisis Intervention Training, is a specialized training to help those that are in a mental health crisis. In today's society, mental health issues are on the rise. As a member of law enforcement, I see it as my duty to be ready to help someone that is struggling with mental health. I have further invested and become trained as a CIT coach. In this role, I am able to teach other Deputies and Officers the techniques and cues that are used to deescalate a mental health issue. I also sit on the SME, Subject Matter Expert, committee for the detentions division. On this committee we look at ways to optimize the procedures, directives and projects for the North Jail Complex. Bringing my corporate background to this committee has helped us to streamline projects and assemble proposals that include all the requirements for quick approval. I am also a Driving Instructor for the Agency. One of the skills required by Colorado POST is that of continual driving training. When responding to emergencies, proper training is one of the key parts for a Deputy to arrive quickly and safely to the scene they are responding to. As a part of the Driving Instructor Cadre, I continually help to teach new Deputies as well as help current Deputies to refine their driving skills. Finally, I have previously invested myself into the agency as a member of the K9 team. On the team I was a decoy/agitator. In this role my responsibilities included setting up training tracks for the dogs to learn to follow the scent of a suspect, setting up a scenarios where the dogs will find narcotics, and wearing a bite suit. All of these aspects help to build our K9's to be a solid reliable team that can be depended on to find a suspect, narcotics or a missing person, when called on.
