Neuroscientist, Metabolic Engineer & Data Scientist with experience in both research & teaching capacity. Developing glycolytic & mitochondrial therapy to target neurodegeneration. Alzheimer's Association Research Fellowship (AARF) grant awardee.Expertise in retina degeneration like Inherited Retinal Degeneration & Age related Macular Degeneration (AMD) , as well as neurodegeneration like Alzheimer's Disease, Traumatic brain injury, & Parkinson's Disease, as evidenced by >12 publications, including 6 first author papers in peer reviewed journals like PNAS, Redox Biology, iScience, etc. A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, under renowned retina biologist Dr. Muna Nash & Dr. Muayyad Al-Ubaidi, laid a strong foundation for my data science background with focus on various omics (metabolomics, proteomics & transcriptomics) & machine learning tools. Further, training under metabolism stalwart Dr. James Hurley, allowed me to hone my metabolic engineering skills to understand how metabolic dysfunction & neurodegeneration are hand in gloves.Currently, my postdoc training under protein misfolding expert & serial innovator Dr. Claudio Soto, has allowed me to gain a fresh perspective & develop innovative approaches to tackle neurodegeneration & neuro-inflammation in both clinical & basic science setup.

I used murine knockout models, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration models to elucidate the effect on RPE and neural retina metabolism in physiology and pathology. For this, I have commonly used molecular biology (cloning) and biochemistry (western blot, IHC, IP) tools, electrophysiological assessments (ERG), functional testing (Fundus, OCT, FFA), HPLC method development, proteomics, RNA seq analysis, untargeted steady state metabolomics, targeted flux metabolomics and machine learning based predictive analysis.
