Dr. Tish Oney tours internationally as a jazz singer, symphony pops/big band soloist, voice pedagogue, musicologist, and author. She has recorded and produced five critically-acclaimed albums (BluJazz) and has performed as soloist with the Detroit Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Williamsburg Symphony, Aiken Symphony, Spartanburg Philharmonic, Symphoria, the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors, Pershing’s Own Army Voices, and Army Blues, among other outstanding ensembles. She has arranged, composed, produced, and performed hundreds of songs and twenty nationally touring concerts, premiering three off-Broadway shows at The Triad Theatre and The Metropolitan Room in NYC. A worldwide authority on jazz singing and pedagogy, she has presented conference workshops, master classes, performances, and presentations in Dublin, Vienna, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, and Rome, among several other cities. Sharing her expertise, Dr. Oney has been a headlining radio guest on CBC, NPR, PRI, Sirius XM, and Talk Radio Europe, among scores of podcasts, magazine, newspaper, internet, television, film documentary, and radio outlets.A widely respected author, composer, and musicologist, Oney writes the internationally popular column "Anatomy of a Standard" for All About Jazz (over one million views). She penned the bestseller "Peggy Lee: A Century of Song," published in 2020 by Rowman & Littlefield, just before authoring another groundbreaking book, "Jazz Singing: A Guide to Pedagogy and Performance" (2022). Oney has served JEN, Documenting Jazz, ICVT, and CS Music as a conference presenter and NATS several times as a master teacher and clinician. She serves as mentoring chair for JENRInG and on the editorial board of the peer-reviewed journal "Jazz Education in Research and Practice." Her writing has been published in JazzTimes, The Journal of Singing, the ARSC Journal, and Classical Singer Magazine.Oney earned a DMA in Jazz Studies with honors from USC Thornton School of Music and an MM with honors in Voice from Ithaca College. Oney served higher education as professor of music at nine universities and colleges, and as visiting artist-in-residence at several more. A renowned specialist in multi-genre singing, Dr. Oney adjudicates international singing competitions and privately teaches professional singers. She is Director of Education for the Greenville Jazz Collective and the Director of Music Ministry at her local church.
