The community assistant role is an administrative position in the leasing office for American Campus Communities apartments. I was in charge of the sale and upkeep of new and existing leases, the management of office functions such as resident assistance, hospitality, and touring, and the consolidation and registration of incoming packages. I learned to proficiently use Salesforce, Notifii, and the Microsoft Office Suite. This position gave me an opportunity to further my interpersonal abilities in a fast-paced environment. I have greater problem-solving and time management skills, and my awareness of how to prioritize and plan daily tasks has been improved. Through my work for American Campus, I feel like a stronger candidate in environments where problem solving, time management, and interpersonal strengths are required.

Heavy research and design development working with United States waste management education. I conducted research on local and national waste management processes and participated actively in observational data collecting to understand problems in the sector of municipal waste management. I was involved individually in all aspects of the project. Final deliverables included a model and presentations for a complete, playable educational classroom game that enables elementary school teachers to teach their students lasting recycling skills. The game prioritizes the need for accessibility and flexibility with educational resources on recycling, and was designed to be cheaply manufactured at home or by a company. As my senior project, this work allowed me to grow much stronger in my design research, generation, and ideation, and to learn how to effectively implement a design in modeling and in final production.

This internship with Ace Sign Company is a design internship involved in design specifications and manufacturing as well as product concept design. During my time with the company, I shadowed multiple designers filling different roles in the process of design, such as concept ideation, modeling, specifications, print production, and fabrication. I was involved individually in managing design specifications to prepare products for manufacture in-house. Additionally, I worked directly on two individual projects in product design, bringing both designs to completion under the approval of the CEO. The projects included a modular office designed to expand the company’s workspace and a large desk for the company’s redesign of the lobby. Both projects are currently being fabricated in-house and brought to reality. This internship greatly expanded my knowledge of the design world, and the depth of bringing a design to completion. I learned a great deal about real world project management, teamwork, and design production. Additionally, I picked up new technical knowledge on printing, plotting, welding, painting, CMF design, and Sketchup.

I served two roles as a desk clerk for university housing residence halls, starting as a desk clerk and being promoted to senior desk clerk in my third year. Working as a desk clerk included office work and resident service. I was directly involved in answering resident questions and managing online accounts, registration and check in/out, package and mail sorting, and key and equipment rentals. The job required skills in fast-paced service, interpersonal excellence, and time management. I gained skills in communicating efficiently, managing the desk environment as a team, and providing quick and organized resident service. As a senior desk clerk, I had the added responsibilities of organizing schedules, running monthly meetings, maintaining office efficiency, and appropriately correcting workplace mistakes. My time with university housing has proven to make me a better candidate for jobs in a team environment where fast decision-making and clear communication is needed.
