What started as initial, unpaid assistance turned into an intense year managing the campaign.Originally, I helped Joan in setting up her campaign committee, hiring a consulting firm to handle compliance issues, recruiting key volunteers and supporters, consulting with election attorneys about the validity of Joan's nominating petitions, advising with vendors on graphic design and on the production of campaign collateral.Eventually, the job grew as we brought on full-time help, fielded inquiries from media organizations of all sizes, courted support from a variety of constituencies across a gerrymandered district.I took on the job of Field Director as we hired a full-time campaign manager to handle many of the day-to-day duties. As Field Director, I analyzed polling data and other information to best devise a strategy to build support for Joan in each of the townships and wards the Ninth District touched.
