Manage IT security, network, and systems engineering teams. Overall responsible for the teams that plan, build, and maintain technology solutions that serve the entire organization. Also responsible for strategic and budget planning for my teams, and fostering cooperation between my engineers and the Service Desk, Business Intelligence (BI), and Application Support teams.

I've written three books on networking, started a successful technology blog with hundreds of daily visitors, and developed skill sets in analytics and machine learning. The Flow Analyzer project developed in my spare time is one of the leading open source network flow analysis tools. Using custom Netflow, sFlow, and IPFIX collectors written in Python I've integrated network flow data with Elasticsearch and Kibana. This allows near real-time search, visualization, and dashboarding of network flow data.

Developed and delivered training supporting the DoD's Computer Network Defense (CND) initiatives at the Center for Information Warfare Training.

Responsible for planning and supervising all aspects of IT operations including strategic planning, policies, auditing & compliance, technical support, software development, and systems design and acquisition. Integrated technology best practices during platform and service design, and in IT policies to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of client and employee information.Responsible for administration of the State of New Mexico's TANF case management system, and a data extract process to a new state-funded database system - a $105,000,000 project with Deloitte LLP. Average daily database extracts contain the details of about 19,000 individuals, coordinated securely with the State of New Mexico and Deloitte LLP.Designed a standardized, distributed network that spans over 100 locations in seven states across the country. Designed helpdesk workflows around a newly installed ticket system, adding accountability and measurable metrics to a previously decentralized and unchecked process of handling customer requests.Worked with HR and Finance teams to document workflows and identify opportunities for technicians and programmers to automate or centralize processes. Delivered solutions outside of IT to bring more value to technology infrastructure already deployed across the country.

Designed, installed, and maintained customer networks. Upgraded servers, configured backups, and verified data integrity for customers in the legal, medical, and construction sectors. Performed preventative maintenance and security audits for customers across various industries. Migrated customers to hosted cloud platforms to increase service availability and reduce risk from improper on-site hosting practices and inadequate on-site facilities. Installed, configured, and maintained Debian-based Linux servers, including Ubuntu distributions, for customers providing web services to clients. Created and maintained MySQL relational databases, including multi-master replication configurations to ensure consistent data availability and fail-over.

Completed Journeyman Instructor Training (NEC 9502) and taught the US Navy's Information Systems Maintenance (ISM, NEC 1678) course. Curriculum included computer and network hardware maintenance, networking, security, tactical computer systems, Windows Server, Linux, and other technologies. Developed extensive laboratory facilities to give students experience configuring Cisco, Alcatel, and Xylan networking equipment at a substantially reduced cost to the US Navy through intelligent network design and use of virtualization technology.Earned the Master Training Specialist designation, as well as Instructor of the Year, and multiple nominations for Sailor of the Quarter and Instructor of the Quarter. Mentored other trainers seeking the Master Training Specialist designation, providing training on public speaking, curriculum development, and student-trainer interaction.

Aboard USS Cushing and USS Vella Gulf:Maintained computer hardware, servers, storage arrays, and networking equipment. Performed installations, maintenance, and upgrades on both classified and unclassified systems including networks, communication suites, and radars.Administered Windows Server, HP-UX, Linux, and Solaris servers, including large Active Directory domains. Maintained networks running Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, and Dell switches and routers.
