Managed projects to build custom tools andenvironments which increased individual developer efficiency. Promoted effortsto create a healthy codebase capable of supporting the growth of Tinder’sengineering team.

Lead a team of engineers focused on building core services to facilitate rapiddevelopment by abstracting infrastructural complexity behind remoteprocedure calls. Employed advanced caching strategies to optimize theperformance of data access as well as mitigate cascading failures when outageswould occur. Developed custom sharding solution to increase the scalability andcost effectiveness of Tinder’s recommendation engine.

Worked to educate members of the team on best development practices forJavaScript and architectural patterns using AWS services. Created customcomponent system to encapsulate logical units of the codebase and theirconfigurations as well as provide tooling to manage complex dependency graphs.

Redesigned the messaging data model to be linearly scalable and highlyavailable while lowering the cost of operation. Helped build the Momentsfeature using MongoDB and Redis. Optimized it for the fanout problem causedby users with large numbers of matches. Worked on the recommendationengine to increase the likelihood of matching and maximize user retention.

Built a testing framework in JavaScript that was used to regress Tinder’s API instaging and production environments. Automated the framework to test theproduction API and monitor the results on regular intervals. Built system tocontinuously check for outages as well as critical security failures.
