My business cards have said Sales Rep, Director, President & CEO, Partner. But when you get right down to it, I’m a revenue generator, brand builder and leader with an entrepreneurial spirit. I currently operate OES Advisors Strategic Marketing. I’ve enjoyed the entrepreneurial pursuit of building a consulting practice and I am grateful for the support of OES clients, however, I have decided that I want to immerse myself in a new project. I miss working with a team of passionate and engaged people where we collectively dig into business opportunities & challenges to unlock potential and deliver growth. My business career started in the telecommunications industry where I worked in B2B acquisition sales. I quickly advanced from general business sales to major accounts, then wholesale national accounts. I didn’t realize it at the time, but while I was in the telecom trenches I was developing and honing skills that would serve as the foundation for new exciting business experiences. My telecom success resulted in me being recruited to join the sports & entertainment industry where I spent 15+ years growing my business skill set. The industry provided me with terrific opportunities to gain leadership experience in operations, marketing, consumer sales, broadcast rights, licensing, events, communications, community relations & fundraising. I have worked with many talented people and have been fortunate to have been part of executive teams that have delivered tremendous growth. Something I’ve learned along my career path is that I feel most alive in growth and turnaround settings. Therefore, I am actively exploring opportunities where my skills and personality are suited to make a meaningful contribution to an organization that seeks growth, turn around or is in start up. This is an exciting time for me as I explore the next chapter of my career. I am committed to change, however, I will be patient but diligent in an effort to discover an exciting project. President & CeoAbbotsford Heat Hockey Ltd May 2009 - Aug 2011Hired by the Calgary Flames and Fraser Valley Sports & Entertainment (“FVSE”) to serve as the first President and CEO for the start-up Abbotsford Heat Hockey Club of the 30 team American Hockey League (“AHL”). The AHL is the primary development league to the NHL with 85% of today’s NHL players being graduates of the AHL. I was the primary liaison with Heat Board of Directors, FVSE, Calgary Flames, City of Abbotsford, Heat hockey operations, Global Spectrum (operator of Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre) and the AHL.In my role with the Heat start-up assignment, I provided overall leadership and direction to the launch and initial operation of the Heat’s business. Start-up activities I led included launching the Heat brand, establishing finance & admin structure, hiring senior staff, core revenue stream development & goal setting, establishing marketing & communications plans, securing media & broadcast partnerships, developing the Heat community relations strategy and forming Abbotsford Heat Foundation. Notwithstanding the Heat’s complex business structure and often challenging operating conditions, I, along with my committed and capable front office team, quickly established the Heat as a leading and up and coming AHL business. Key accomplishments during my tenure with the Heat include;- 7th in AHL club revenue- 3rd in AHL ticket yield- Recognized by AHL as the leading club in sponsorship revenue growth - Heat made over 200 community appearances- Through the Heat Foundation, donated over $300,000 to local charitiesI was very fortunate to lead terrific people who worked very hard to launch the franchise within a short timeframe.
