Team Atlas, 12/2020 - 3/2022The objective for Team Atlas was to create an opinionated, security-first platform that application teams across Mastercard could use to migrate their workloads to the cloud. Our platform operated at global scale, allowing teams to deploy to several Azure-backed regions, worldwide.- helped plan and create regional landing zones in Azure for application teams wanting to operate at global scale- created platform components using Terraform and Go; created support tooling using Bash, Python, and the Azure CLI- worked as a member of a remote DevSecOps team, with team members distributed, coast to coast- in conjunction with our project management team, helped drive/define our agile practices

While my broader focus was application development, I specialized in enabling app modernization through the Azure platform. Responsibilities:- developed products, pricing, go-to-market strategies, and marketing materials- identified and established partnerships with ISVs- developed and delivered SOWs- participated in upfront sales conversations- acted as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders- architected Azure environments, provisioned through modern IaC tools (Terraform)- provided strategic guidance on Azure configuration, governance, and monitoring- designed and delivered process automation solutions using Azure DevOps

The roll out of the "performance manager" platform was aimed at effectively scaling the engineering population. Instead of 300+ engineers reporting directly to the CTO, each performance manager would serve 9-12 engineers and report directly to CTO. Initially, less than 20 performance managers were selected. I was fortunate enough to be a member of that initial group.- delivered presentations covering company culture, expectations, and initiatives- performed annual reviews; developed action plans to amplify identified strengths and address identified weaknesses- mentored engineers on potential career paths and available opportunities

During my time at Asynchrony, I worked alongside some truly brilliant individuals across disciplines (UX, QA, agile coaching, DevOps) and solidified my beliefs regarding how high-quality software is developed and how value is delivered effectively.Team Phoenix, 11/2013 - 2/2016- developed several single page applications for a client in the financial services industry- focused on full-stack development using .NET Framework as a backend (ASP.NET MVC, Web API), SQL Server as a database (Entity Framework), and various front-end libraries (Knockout, Moment.js, RequireJS, postal.js); also leveraged TypeScript to add type safety to our applications and SignalR to provide real-time functionality- worked as a part of a cross-discipline team practicing test-driven development, pair programming, and Scrumban- set up a continuous integration/continuous deployment pipeline using Jenkins and PowershellTeam Kaiju/Sorting Hat, 2/2016-7/2017- maintained and extended several microservices constituting a custom-built recruitment platform- developed using Ruby on Rails, MySQL, RSpec, Cucumber- provisioned infrastructure in AWS using Terraform, including Amazon ECS, Amazon RDS, and Amazon Route 53Team Hydra, 7/2017-7/2019- instrumented and maintained several Ruby backend services supporting a custom-built encryption platform- consolidated 9+ "microservices" running on 20 different RHEL servers down to 3 services running on 7 servers; eliminated thousands of lines of redundant code and hundreds of network calls throughout the system- increased system observability by streaming service log files to Splunk and creating reports and alerts

In 2009, I took an opportunity to help lead the development of several SaaS applications that were being developed for the federal government. Working in an environment where I was given a high degree of autonomy, I:- architected and led the migration of all existing source code from VSS to SVN- formalized branching, merging, and deployment strategies- introduced test-driven development and automated testing to other team members- built a continuous deployment pipeline using Jenkins, MSBuild, MS Deploy, and SQL Server Data Tools

My first professional programming gig out of college, I was a part of a scrappy, 10-something person team working to deliver a highly customizable project management solution. I learned so much during my time here that has carried with me throughout my career: what it is like to build and support a product, the ins and outs of developing a SaaS application, and how to effectively collaborate with/manage the expectations of customers.
