Staying relevant and continually learning has never been more important in our changing world.My career has evolved over time and will continue to do so. From starting as a humble software engineer to stumbling into a newfound passion in security, I have gained diverse experiences that have made my learning and growth journey both rewarding and interesting, all the while attempting to master the trade.Fresh out of university with a newly minted degree in computer science, I operated in one of the coolest roles on the planet, keeping me busy with crafting software that was functional, efficient, and understandable. This first part of my journey is also where I got to build other skills such as leadership and mentorship. Then taking on the role of security champion opened my eyes to the wide world of application security, and I immediately fell lovestruck.Enter my desire to learn anything and everything about application security, which led to pursuing multiple certifications and a degree focused on security. The next part of my journey was just beginning.Focusing next on the extremely varied responsibilities that fall into the realm of application security, I started mastering the pillars one by one. It is one thing to understand what all the acronyms stand for, and another to realize the value these processes can bring to a team or organization when applied in the right way that melds with the culture.Still fueling my passion and curiosity for application security today, I continue to learn each day and fill my corpus with good ideas and lessons learned. I enjoy working towards protecting organizations from vulnerabilities and inspiring others to have an interest in security.
