With a background in data, Tom started his PR career working for mid-sized global agencies and mentoring UK startups on how to get the most out of PR. He then went on to have the chance to learn the ropes from some of the best in the business at global agency giants like Edelman, where - based out of Berlin, he ran their department focused on scaling companies. As time went on working with so many rapidly growing businesses - he kept dealing with the same issues.The traditional PR process started to feel outdated and inefficient. It became an ongoing cycle of pitching developing messaging and pitching journalists, never really knowing if you were going to get coverage for your clients. There was a lack of transparency in the process for clients and little innovation in the sector, with a huge reliance on old-school and manual methods for doing PR. Tom would get to the end of months leading PR accounts for some of the world’s household brand names and have conversations with heads of comms and marketing which always started “so what was the ROI on the hours the agency spent this month? What were those hours spent doing?”It was the same conversation every month, and yet agencies weren’t focused on being efficient, they were still charging clients by the hour, rarely guaranteeing results - because they knew they couldn’t. It’s impossible to make that model work without the data to know you’re going to be successful. MVPR was born from the desire to make PR more transparent, efficient, and measurable.
