About Thomas Moriarty
Hello! My career within IT started when I was young, self-learning about coding for Online gaming communities ranging from java to lua to eventually C#. Eventually I start messing around with the family’s hub, port forwarding certain ports to allow me to host gaming servers for friends, from there my love for all IT really started seeing the capabilities I was able to do from a young age. Eventually after lockdown I managed to secure an apprenticeship where I was in a real work place environment managing a companies servers, active directory and dealing with 1st line IT Support queries both face to face as well as over the phone. I felt I could learn and do anything with a laptop and support from my team. I then proceeded to progress my career onto British Telecom, within their Technical Department, dealing with hundreds of customers per week, with issues ranging from broken equipment to damaged cables for customers who required priority care to your standard household within the UK! I eventually worked my way up to head over to Birchwood, Warrington where BT expanded their call centre to incorporate another Technical Centre. I helped manage, train and progress other advisors to exceed their potential and grow within the company providing support for our customers. I eventually, decided I wanted to try other avenues within the company, transferring down to their Value department, helping tailor customers packages to their needs while also attempting to retain customers who wanted to part ways. It opened my eyes up to the different paces and atmosphere within BT really opening my eyes.After experiencing a different sector of BT, I moved to become a Technical Engineer for a company who worked closely with schools all around the UK, managing their servers, active directory, hardware, software and their VOIP systems. I managed to learn a lot from many amazing peers who taught me the ropes, eventually installing the VOIP systems for the schools over bank holidays and other holidays!But deep down It didn’t feel right. So I moved back to BT which is now merged with EE! Back to their Technical department where my journey really started, again helping BT & EE customers with their queries. Even managing to get promoted to their Connections department and dealing with more customers and more queries.My dream eventually is to work with BT / EE's Cyber Security team helping protect millions of businesses and customers from the harmful side of the internet we sometimes forget exists.
