In 2012, the White House recognized my achievements with a Champion of Change award for my work in East Africa. My current role is founder and CEO of Raintree Farms.I have over a decade of experience helping African and international organizations, including clients like the World Bank, use design, new media, and technology to engage with the public, maintain a competitive edge and foster a global presence. I am also a board member and advisor to several organizations including Africans in the Diaspora and Hive Colab. While known for being a staunch critic of development, I believe in the value and power of a global partnership to support social and economic development in Africa. I founded and co-founded a number of businesses including Raintree Farms, an agriculture business in my hometown of Masindi, Uganda; Remit.ug, an online remittances transfer platform; Hive Colab, Uganda’s first technology incubator, and Project Diaspora. In 2010, I founded the Villages in Action (ViA) interactive conference, which enabled rural Ugandans to contribute to the global dialogue about development in Africa.A technology enthusiast, I write and speak extensively on Africa’s current renaissance driven by technology, youth and its Diaspora. I am a frequent contributor to several online publications including CNN, The Globe and Mail, and The Guardian. I make frequent media appearance on Al Jazeera, BBC, and Huffington Post, and Voice of America.I have a degree in Communication Design from University of North Texas and hold three Uganda national records in high jump, pole vault, and decathlon.
