Mercatus is the future of online grocery retailers and shopping competing with companies like Stor, Instacart. The company manages store inventory, orders and deliveries. Additionally they have mobile apps for end users to buy groceries and arrange deliveries and pickups. The website also features ads to promote products, etc. Here, I created the first micro service using slim php framework for the purpose of managing ad clicks and impressions. The main api was crashing initially because of the high volume requests to track clicks and impressions but after determining that MySQL was overloaded and without enough physical ram, I suggested using a combo of DynamoDB and AWS AmazonMQ to mitigate lag issues related to load requestsLearned about GTIN and Product Codes. Wrote endpoints to facilitate shipping, sending orders to respective drivers for deliveries and order pickups by clients.Migrated legacy applications to use the php symfony frameworkImplemented the only inhouse git repository using satis which became the standard repo for all software build by the organizationSet the standard for prototyping and inspired the whole team to work extra hours when they were free if they wanted. Some clients worth mentioning are BMW, Virgin Mobile, Bell, etc. The company creates tools for measuring employee performance and provides incentives to encourage respective client staff to work harder. They do this by implementing a points system and a rewards portal alongside with games for respective employees to track their work and award them for a job well done.Here, I discovered and reported a major calculation flaw in points rewards which would have resulted in major losses. Basically, a part of the system was awarding more points/rewards to end user clients who didn't do much to deserve the rewards. Applied a patch and added test coverage.Additionally, I managed rewards and promotions games - setting up odds to win select prizes.Implemented the first graphical representation of global stats for clients with High Charts, VueJS and PHP Symfony. This was required by clients so they can see how well their employees are performing and also tracking sales targets and projections.Migrated api from the legacy Symfony 2 to NodeJS as part of a team. My role was writing tests and continuously do checks between legacy endpoints and new ones ensuring tests didn't break and legacy software was functional and efficient.Was responsible for adding Froala editor and all things related to text input and templates via the editor. I additionally wrote custom plugins for it to feature unique components and embedded media (images, video, etc) required by the app. This was a tool important for managing internationalization across the organization.

Verascore is an organization that does reviews for businesses you like to frequent from restaurants to plumbing etc. The company employs people to signup businesses and each person can recruit others like a pyramid.Here I re-created pyramid scheme to use a hierarchical methodology instead of a flat foreign key based scheme in MySQLFixed a design flaw as a result of many table joins that were causing a query to run over 10 minutes. After the hierarchical approach, the query time was cut to less than 0.5 secondsCreated an automation script to manage payment data related to Ceridian Payroll Services. Champions Capital was a company that managed several projects including an online newspaper and a bidding website. Leads were generated by crawling newspaper classified sections on the web. The leads would be compiled into an automated caller and if you guessed it - it was telemarketing to convince prospective clients to signup with our service.Wrote a scraping API which was basically a JAVA interpreter for a custom made programming language I created in an XML Document to allow scrapping of static and dynamic content from various internet sources.Managed and maintained huge data sets with MySQL taking full advantage of MySQL server variables and parameters. This system was old and this organization had a stringent budget so I had to come up with creative ways of keeping old data accessible without compromising the integrity of the system while updating or performing select queries.Developed a program to manage call lists for high volume outbound calls and keep track of leads based on the prompts they pressed.Trained interns and assigned tasks to each one of them based on skill assessment and experience to build them up and help them gain good confidence in the tasks at hand. In other words, I helped to build team confidence to produce fast results.LAMP System maintenance troubleshooting involving data recovery in the event that MySQL Server crashed. Block malicious robots using IP Tables firewall in Linux occasionally when websites could not handle the requests overload. Since no load balancing was implemented, this proved to be a feasible solution.Implementing SELinux enforcing and permissive modes in web environment. On a system that is enforcing SELinux policy, things can be hard to deal with in the web server environment such as file uploads and accessing OS environment features. Knowing SELinux helped to resolve those issues and it really helps with making the environment more secure.
