As a graduate research assistant in the Reproductive, Perinatal, and Pediatric Epidemiology department at UNC, I designed and currently lead a research project aiming to elucidate disparities in chronic disease prevalence and health care access in individuals with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis across four U.S. sites. In this project, I clean data from the CDC SEED Teen study and perform descriptive statistical analyses to determine prevalence estimates in SAS.

The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) is a federally-funded, national program that aims to train graduate students and advocates in interdisciplinary leadership and equitable treatment for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). As a trainee, I collaborate in weekly case studies with an interdisciplinary group of professional students and disability advocates to discuss evidence-based strategies for promoting health and well-being in the I/DD community, contribute to the advancement of knowledge and best practices regarding I/DD and related complex care needs through Leadership in Action seminars and civic engagement in the community, and apply systems-level thinking to the design and management of a year-long I/DD project exploring health disparities. At the Spring Symposium, I will present my research findings to a diverse audience of stakeholders, including researchers, family members, and self-advocates

In the Department of Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University, I managed a project exploring the role of a novel compound in mfd-dependent inhibition of bacterial evolution and antibiotic potentiation. I was responsible for the visualization of preliminary experimental results in Excel for presentation at regular group meetings focused on project feedback, team-based troubleshooting, and discussion of recent literature. I also maintained stock of essential laboratory materials, including the preparation of media, reagents, and buffers.

As a technician in the Clemson REDDI Lab, I played a key role in the collection and intake of up to 9,000 daily test specimens during the omicron surge and contributed to the same-day quarantine of positive cases and containment of COVID-19 in the community. I contributed to the maintenance of the biorepository of positive samples using Opentron robot technology, which bolstered the collection of local variant data. Additionally, I preserved specimen records in Excel following good documentation practices.

I worked to Increase medication adherence through the Patient Care Calls outreach program and engaged in active listening to alleviate customer concerns about medication availability and cost. I responsibly managed sensitive health information in Epic for registration and direction of COVID-19 testing, contributing to the smooth operation of COVID-19 services during a critical period.
