Architecture has been a passion of mine since I was a child: building dollhouses was just as much fun for me as playing with my dolls. My fondness for structures continued to develop, as I wrote CAD courses for my high school and obtained my B.S. in Civil Engineering. Now, as a Masters of Architecture student, I'm seeing more how my life experiences have predisposed me for this field. As with my dolls, I care not just for the building, but also the people who will inhabit its space.I gravitate towards creating places for community, built and un-built. For a senior design project, I developed plans for a new apartment building to take the place of an outdated and unkempt one on my undergraduate college's campus. My team and I fully developed the floor plans, details, structural components, building phases, and transportation plans for this new building. This tangible work was dazzling to the administrative board, but they were likewise impressed with my less visible efforts. Holding student focus groups and regularly meeting with our dean of student life and college's vice president demonstrated the care I put into making this building fit the vision of the university.My skills, mind for design, and leadership positions I hold in architecture clubs at my university are obviously good clout for my budding reputation in the architecture community. But, I believe my character also speaks for itself.One of the greatest compliments I've ever received was from a friend. He told me I was one of two people in his life who truly listened to what he said. While they are kind words, I was surprised, as I treat him like I do anyone. I bring that same attention and care to my career and education. I have a strong work ethic and constantly seek growth, professionally and as a person. I'm genuine and motivated. I do my best for what I love: architecture and people.
