I am currently taking a gap year where I have used this year to further develop my skillset,I wanted to find a role where I would be developing my interpersonal skills, and improve my confidence I thought a sales type role would help me do this, I found a role working as an estate agent, in a busy town of Guildford. This massively helped my confidence as I was selling properties and taking care of vendors to ensure there properties sell for the right price and to always ensure customer satisfaction. I chose a company which had a high market share in the Guildford area this was to ensure I could get the most out of this job and ensure I would learn from the best salesman out there. With my 6 months work I managed out perform my targets creating a high level pipeline benefitting both myself and the business. Most months I would be outperforming other sales negotiators in other branches and I would finish in the top 3 of call numbers for the whole business each month.Throughout my role as I learnt more I managed to understand how to sell and the physiology behind of selling. This enabled me to sell more ancillaries which both benefited the business and myself, I managed to lead the Guildford branch in Financial service sign ups whilst I was working there.I believe my proactive approach of trying to constantly learn as much as possible from my colleagues led me to be successful in my role. I believe this skillset will be transferable to any career path and will massively help me.As well as gaining vital work experience, I also wanted to broaden my horizons and explore the other side of the world, as I’m half Australian I wanted to go back to where my father grew up and see what is was like and see the other side of my family. This will benefit me in a different way as I will be interacting with different people and seeing the different ways of life in another country.I feel with this combination of work and travel it will set me up well for any challenge that will arise in the near future. And give me the right skillset to attack it head on.
