After being part of the Sydney gallery team for a number of years, Toby took on the role of Manager of the Berlin gallery in 2015, bringing to the position his knowledge of contemporary art and experience in art administration and curating. Toby returned to Sydney in 2017, taking on the role of Sydney Gallery Manager before taking on his current role as Director of Galleries in March 2018, and Partner in 2019. From 2017-2018, in partnership with DFAT, Toby curated and project managed the largest and most significant exhibition of contemporary Australian photography to tour Europe (Berlin, Cologne, London and Paris). Toby holds Masters of Art Administration from UNSW Art & Design (formerly COFA) and a degree in Art History & Theory from the University of Sydney. While completing his Masters program Toby worked at the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra as well as working in the visitor experience team at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art. He also built on his experience with roles at Kaldor Public Art Projects and as a researcher for the Australian Research Council’s Major Project: Australia Art Exhibitions 1968-2009.Beyond his work with Michael Reid, Toby continues to pursue a passion for arts writing and has a particular interest in urban Indigenous art practice, young artist mentorship and contemporary photography.
