Director of operations a leading independent day and boarding school located in Oxford with an annual turnover in excess of £32m, 1200+ students and 500 staff located over four sites. Responsible for ensuring effective leadership and management for the schools operational services such as commercial income, IT Services, on-site Theatre, Catering, Housekeeping, Sports Centre, Transport, Risk and Compliance Management, Physical & Cyber Security, Data Protection, Health and Safety and Events. Along with managing assigned Capital Projects.

Level 2 IC, attending operational incidents and exercises as Incident Commander, or carrying out other roles including mentoring, auditing or investigating.Achievements have included safely and effectively managing a number of major incidents as the Incident/Operational Commander. These include a severe chemical fire in Oxfordshire and the winter flooding, which included working in East Berkshire, leading multi-disciplined national teams at a tactical level, by co-ordinating, planning and implementing a response.

Planning, organising, producing and implementing policy and procedure to ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements.This role has involved the strategic planning and tactical co-ordination of several teams, including: training, operations, control room, health & safety and research & design departments, in order to mitigate risk and ensure an effective and efficient response to incidents. Due to its success I chaired a group leading and motivating teams from neighbouring Fire Services, optimising our joint resources for efficiency, ensuring our procedures align to aid cross border working. This is validated by internal continual assessment and external verifiers.

This role involved the strategic planning and development of training across the Service, including the creation of associated policies and procedures, organisational training needs analysis, budget planning, the procurement of external training courses and the continual auditing, evaluating and reviewing of all training. I successfully completed a strategic training review and created plans to implement required change. This included the delivery of several training projects including: introducing new IT training systems, a training competency framework, creation of development programmes and a new promotional process. The role included the line management of the Training Resources and Media Officer, who was responsible for the procurement and provision of training resources including media equipment , along with implementing policy for digital photography (and associated data protection), organisational use of CCTV, and copyright. These achievements were supported by successful audits by the Health and Safety Executive, National Resilience Assurance Team and peer review assessments.

Other various relevant responsibilities within the Fire and Rescue Service have included: Design, planning and delivery of training courses and sessions to a variety of groups and abilitiesImplementing and delivering risk reduction activities; such as working with youth offenders, junior citizens, schools, vulnerable groups, and cycling proficiency schemes. Managing health and safety within the fire station including COSHH, Legionella inspections, asbestos registers, risk assessments, fire safety etc. Auditing and developing site-specific response plans for major risks and eventsInspection and auditing of premises and enforcing Fire Safety LegislationWorking with partner agencies e.g. Thames Valley Police and local authority teams, including: building control, planning, licensing and environmental health in enforcement and safety activities.
