About Toby Barazzuol

I'm an entrepreneur with an optimistic vision of the future. I believe that the power of technology combined with a deep respect for people, community and our environment are the keys to business success. I'm interested in exploring how businesses can integrate with society and learn to function in harmony with nature's rhythms and limits. What does it mean for a business to create value, and how do we do this responsibly and in a way that heals the world? As a company, our goal is to recognize excellence at any level. Some of our clients include NASA, the United Nations, Microsoft, Oracle and IBM, so we understand what it takes to supply and partner with some of the most successful organizations in the world.Through my work at the Strathcona BIA we are looking to develop Strathcona as Vancouver's Green Zone, a community of progressive businesses that supports and celebrates sustainability, values collaboration over competition, and views our local economy as an ecosystem that’s interconnected with residents and artists. This means not only bringing sustainable thought to local businesses and organizations, but also developing the broader community and services that will assist with their sustainability initiatives. Sustainability provides a promising framework for dealing with the economic, environmental and social challenges of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. At Eclipse Awards, we believe that recognizing the leaders that move our society forward intelligently is a critical element in the movement towards sustainability - or any movement for that matter.Specialties: Sustainability and whole systems thinkingDesignthe power of recognition and appreciationCommunity buildingSustainable design of products, systems and processesAwards and recognition and their effects on recipientsGreen building, alternative energy sources, electric vehiclesInternet marketing, web usage and search engine optimization

The face of the local economy movement is evolving and so is BALLE – the 2013 BALLE Local Economy Fellowship is comprised of food justice leaders, independent business conveners, and community capital innovators, each of whom is creating systems that promote real prosperity by localizing their economy. Together they will grow their personal leadership skills, advance their regions’ capacity to localize, and help transform the local economy movement for all of us. This is the next generation of leadership in the BALLE Local Economy Fellowship. Individually these leaders are transforming their communities and their industries; together, there are no boundaries to the impact they will have on our work, our communities, and our movement. This next group of innovators also brings into clear focus BALLE’s commitment to prosperity for ALL and a commitment to ensuring that all populations are brought into the fold of Localism, not just those in the center.
