After moving to Canada in June 2017, I took a short career break, working as a Ski Patroller at Lake Louise Ski Resort. Responsibilities included mountain safety, first aid response, technical rescue and public relations. Throughout the season I responded to multiple first aid/rescue events, both individually and as part of a team, involving trauma, fractures, spinal injuries and concussions. I was voted Rookie of the Year by the Snow Safety team.

Drawing on a background in the Military Air Environment and Explosive Safety, Toby Stedham Consulting Ltd provided specialist Safety, Environmental and Engineering consultancy services to clients in the Defence Industry. Projects included the introduction of novel Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR) systems across the Air, Land and Sea domains as part of the UK Ministry of Defence Mode 5 IFF programme.

Over an 8 1/2 year career as an Engineer Officer in the Royal Air Force I served in a number of leadership and management roles; including technical project management, aircraft engineering operations management, armaments engineering and bomb disposal. As well as serving across the UK I have served in Afghanistan, the Falkland Islands, Estonia and several other countries; often having to operate in challenging conditions in remote or austere locations.As a Military Officer I was often exposed to unfamiliar, dynamic and challenging environments and expected to be adaptable and hit the ground running. From establishing an engineering detachment out of a Scottish pig barn to carrying out bomb disposal operations in remote locations (and many challenges in between), I had to identify key priorities and allocate resource whilst engaging with multiple internal and external stakeholders. A fast learner, I believe these experiences will enable me to thrive across a range of job roles and sectors.In addition to my primary roles, I developed my leadership and teamwork skills, among other attributes, whilst participating in numerous other projects. Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Captain Robert Falcon Scott's expedition to the South Pole, I participated in the British Services Antarctic Expedition 2012 (http://www.bsae2012.co.uk). Undertaking a 23 day return crossing of the Antarctic Peninsular, we endured challenging terrain and weather conditions whilst carrying out scientific research. As a military qualified mountain leader, rock climbing leader and ski touring leader, I led and participated in a number of expeditions across Europe.A keen sportsman, I represented the RAF at both Rowing and Telemark Skiing, achieving a 15th placing at the UK Telemark Skiing Championships in 2016. I was also selected to lower the Paralympic Flag at the Closing Ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

Operations Manager and Second in Command, 93 (Expeditionary Armament) SquadronResponsible for Operational and Exercise planning and execution; supporting RAF deployments across the globe with weapon licensing, storage, preparation and delivery. This involved deploying and managing up to a quarter of the 133 person unit concurrently in multiple worldwide locations from the Baltics to the Middle East to North America.A qualified armament/explosive safety specialist, I was held at readiness to deploy globally to assess, quantify and mitigate explosive safety hazards/risks. In this role I deployed to Estonia and the Middle East in support of UK and NATO operations.Also responsible for the delivery of specialist training, I managed the unit training cell. This involved the review and development of weapon lifting policy to ensure compliance with UK/MoD legislation as well as the development and implementation of specialist driver training policy. Additionally I ran a project managed an IT transformation project to consolidate the unit's numerous disparate planning databases into a single consolidated planning tool, improving control and access to information for all and reducing the operational/exercise/training planning and management burden.

Project Manager - Engineering Support, BAe 146 VIP Transport Aircraft FleetResponsbile for airworthiness risk assessment and mitigation for the RAF BAe 146 VIP Transport Aircraft Fleet. Including robust management of Risk Registers and Hazard Logs, assessment of EASA/CAA/FAA airworthiness bulletins, technical publications, maintenance programmes, obsolescence management and modifications/upgrades. Acted as link between front line users and industry contractors.

Engineering Operations Manager, Chinook Helicopter ForceResponsible for the continuing airworthiness of up to 14 Chinook battlefield helicopters in the UK, on international exercises and on operations in Afghanistan, and the line management of 90 people. Responsible for maintaining the Medical Emergency Response Team helicopter on immediate 24/7 standby in Afghanistan.

Operations Manager and Bomb Disposal OperatorResponsible for line management of 90 people across four UK locations whilst maintaining bomb disposal capabilities in the UK and across three international Theatres. Undertook Bomb Disposal Operator duties. Engaged with Trade Unions, local MPs, local/national media and addressed Parliamentary Questions.

Operations Manager and Bomb Disposal OperatorResponsible for the line management of 27 people, storage and preparation of all air weapons and maintenance of the British Forces South Atlantic bomb disposal capability. Explosive Safety Representative to the senior military commander in the South Atlantic. Led bomb disposal efforts in South Georgia and advised UK Foreign Office on Falkland Islands minefield clearance.
