As the Chief Investment Officer, I'm responsible for leading Grubb Properties’ capital strategy and real estate investment activity including discretionary fund programs, co-investments, and joint venture programs. I lead a team that manages four areas of the business: fund management, investor relations, capital formation, and corporate and fund marketing/communications. I currently serve as a voting member of the firm’s management and investment committees and serve on the Board of Directors of SPGPI, a board- and employee-owned parent company to Grubb Properties. My goal as CIO, and the focus of my entire team, is to help bring essential housing to resilient and high-growth markets across the United States, a solution that serves all stakeholders: investors, residents, and our broader community. I have over 30 years of industry experience, including executive and senior roles here at Grubb Properties in development, acquisitions, underwriting, and debt financing. As an architect and urban planner, I bring my passion for research, design, and urban planning to Grubb Properties where we focus on developing essential housing – which fills the critical “missing middle” gap between affordable housing and luxury housing. After initially partnering with Grubb Properties starting in the late 1990s on several projects, I formally joined the firm in 2005. Over the past decade, I have overseen capital formation for more than $1.0 billion in equity deployed across approximately $2.5 billion in real estate transactions including the formation of 7 flagship funds; the formation and subsequent consolidation of 3 Qualified Opportunity Zone funds into a single QOZ REIT vehicle; and the formation of 3 special purpose, project funds to raise capital for legacy assets. Prior to joining Grubb Properties, I worked for 12 years in real estate advisory services, entitlement, and urban planning where I provided consulting services to cities, states, and quasi-governmental bodies as well as a wide variety of institutional investors, private companies, public companies, and real estate investment trusts. During this time, I led the assembly of a 6-block urban district involving public, private and non-profit partnerships. Other significant initiatives include: project management for Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s master-plan vision; project management for the Charlotte Regional Intermodal Facility; and project management for regional planning and economic development projects for over a dozen metropolitan regions and states across the country.
