“Experience is the best teacher” and “life is about the journey and not the destination” These are two goals I have tried to live and work by. From taking students to international theatre competitions or a student’s first time on an escalator, I have learned from my students and all the jobs since. My variety of jobs before, during, and after teaching that have helped me to reach these goals and more. Careers and work are an important part of our lives but it is the experiences through work and travel that I have become the person I am today.My greatest honor was becoming International Teacher of the Year and being honor along side Les Wexner as International businessman of the year. The two of us were able to effect so much change in our given careers but it was the many years at the performing arts school and Interlochen World Center for the Arts that allowed me to bring out in my students the very passion for the arts that I enjoyed myself. Theatre became the vehicle to bridge cultural differences, gang relations and students with disabilities suddenly became equals and the ability to find their own voice. I was so fortunate to work with students of different cultures and to give a voice to the homeless through theatre and writing original scripts and publishing their stories. As manager of the floral department at Michael’s I was able to bring happiness to proms corsage, floating wreaths and camouflage weddings but it was the solace that memorial flowers brought the living that really struck me. My designs for military memorial flowers became a national design for Michael’s. When not acting on the stage, painting or designing I love to travel. I have been fortunate to also work as a travel agent. This work allowed me to share my knowledge of travel, culture and the passion to explore. I helped the stranded during COVID and designed destination weddings. At AAA I was able to achieve certification as a destination specialist with a focus on Mexico, Hawaii, Destination Weddings and European River Cruises. I was also award the AAA Five Diamond Award for customer service and excellence in work performance.So what’s next? I am looking for an opportunity to connect with people, engage in meaningful work and grow as a person. The next job I am sure will open me to new experiences and allow me to build upon my past experiences. We are all in it together so why not celebrate or commonalities and our differences. Work does not have to be work and I hope that I will find that with your company. Thank you for your time and consideration.
