Initially started as the Unix Suite Team Lead for Rational (and then later IBM's) for build, release management, and offering delivery.Transitioned into Globalization Development (Java) for the XDE suite of desktop offerings that integrated with Microsoft's Visual Studio, and IBM's WebSphere Application Developer. IBM had a mandate to support Group 1 languages, and as business required, Group 2 & 3.Some Java development support of special language requirements for UML Model rendering.Used Perl for translation tooling for grepping English strings for translation, UNICODE transformation, for integration of globalized content back into product builds.

The concept was quite simple, provide a common CLI experience, largely based on the Cisco spec to allow networking competitors to level the playing field. By having an open CLI it allowed Nortel (and other vendors who adopted it) to compete on equipment performance vs embedded and expensive certification where Cisco was the dominant player.Responsible for multi-layered compilations across the router spectrum, ClearCase triggers and reason-checking, Makefile creation, etc., product release planning & roll-out.Nortel Lab Health & Safety Lead trained in advanced 1st Aid, and HAZMAT.

Lead a team of 45 engineers in the compilation, packaging, and preparation for delivery of the ServiceBuilder offering that was custom designed and installed on customer software switches.ServiceBuilder provided value-add IN service for Prepaid PCS (like buying cellphone minutes) and allowed for corporate-wide control of expenses in furnishing employees wireless communications. The service included Calling Party Pays, GeoZone, Location Inquiry, Local Number Portability, Number Translation Services, Personal Number Service, Sponsored Call/Sponsored Cell and Virtual Private Networking.The software was designed to be installed and executed on HP-UX & Solaris, where each release engineer was responsible for the packaging, delivery, and installation on-site. Was a certified Sys Admin for both Unix platforms.C. C++, Perl, and csh were part of my arsenal.Managed a very vibrant 16 month internship program that recruited 12 to 16 coop students each year to build a pipeline of potential new hires for my division, but for Nortel as a whole.
